Chapter 5: Twelve Stress Free Habits To Keep Your House Clean
In this chapter you will learn the basics to keep your home clutter-free before it even has any chance to build up. There are habits that will be needed to be executed regularly to help keep the clutter down and your home organized.
1) Recycle Mail As Soon As You Get It
When you get your mail from your mail box you should sort through it immediately. Set up a space for placing your bills, recyclables and trash. Then, when you sort your mail, you can automatically place these items where they belong as soon as you enter the house.
2) No Unnecessary Shopping
Avoid shopping for leisure and also avoid impulsive purchases. Ask yourself if these items are necessary or needed prior to buying them. The answer will tell you if it is an important item or just something that will cause clutter in your house. It is indeed difficult to avoid unnecessary shopping since good salespeople and attractive discounts may tempt you to purchase a product. However, you have to have a clear mind and not buy on impulse since it’ll surely cause clutter to form in your house.
3) Reorganize Daily
Before you go to bed every night, you should sort through your home and return items to their proper locations. Books back on shelves, dishes put away, and toys returned to your child's room. Doing this every night means that you do not have extra work when you wake up or come home the next day.
4) Reduce Toys Before New Toys Are Purchased
During holidays or birthdays, you should sort through your child's toys before you allow more toys into their rooms. Allow your child to help so that they can choose items they no longer play with. You can even allow them to pick somewhere that they could donate toys to so that they can feel the joy of helping other people.
5) Purchase Organizational Tools To Keep Things Organized
Set up things around your house to help organize items will help you keep things organized. Items such as mail holders, file containers, shoe racks, and any other number of items can make your clutter-free and organized life much simpler.
6) Avoid Magazine And Newspaper Subscriptions
Having access to the internet can allow you the ability to find your favorite reading material online. Reading these items on your computer or tablet will help you avoid the clutter of magazines and newspapers especially if you have a habit of keeping them for 'later'. However, if you cannot read your magazines online, make sure you have storage racks for keeping them organized.
7) Make Digital Copies Of Important Documents
Whenever, you are able to store your items on a safe flash drive or external hard drive, you reduce the possibility of accidentally losing these items and you can also prevent a lot of paper clutter around your house. Taking photos or scanned copies of important documents to place on storage devices will allow you to keep these items safe and free up your desk space.
